A New Yorker at heart, Sarah Buxton paid tribute to her birthplace of Marion, Illinois and her favorite shopping destination street in Soho when she created her aptly named website: Marion Mercer. Launched in November 2008, Buxton fused her keen eye for vintage shopping with her entrepreneurial spirit to create an online haven for those who appreciate a great vintage find but don’t have the time or resources to do the finding. A former model, Fashion Institute of Technology grad and Intermix alum, Buxton quickly caught on that the best-dressed women in New York were always mixing vintage pieces with their current wardrobe. After a few test runs at flea markets and under-the-radar vintage haunts, Buxton was ready to open her own vintage shop online. Marion Mercer offers a well-edited selection of fashion and accessories collected from Buxton’s monthly travels to New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Paris and throughout Europe to find treasures from Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Halston and many more. Buxton understands the challenges of incorporating vintage pieces into a modern wardrobe. She personally styles each vintage item offered, often pairing them with denim or everyday basics to give shoppers a context they can relate to and to inspire different ways to wear each piece year after year.
